Easy Deployment with PlatformManager for QlikView and Qlik Sense

October 8, 2019

You are finished with developing your app and everything is ready to move to production, but how?! Download, move to a different server, upload, move to the correct stream, change the data connections. Are you sure that everything is correct? Do you know what the dependencies are?

How much time do you spend on publishing apps, tasks, extensions?

Deploying Qlik apps, tasks and extensions to your Qlik production environment is not so simple. And it takes a lot of time and energy from your developers or administrators. You have to download the files, move them to the other server and upload them again. It’s easy to make mistakes while doing this and it takes a lot of time!

What can go wrong? Who gives you the guarantee that the app that you are uploading is the same version as the one you downloaded earlier? And how does the app get the right data? Do you have to change the data connections in the script while working on the production server? And how do you know which extensions and QVD’s are being used? Are they already in production or do you have to publish them as well?

In short, a lot can go wrong resulting in your Business Users not being able to analyze your data! Stop this and make your Publication process go smooth and automatically.

How do you know your dependencies?

The main goal of developing Qlik apps is to enable Business users the ability to analyze the companies data. Therefore you develop Qlik apps and publish these to the production server where Business users use them to analyze your data. Everybody wants that to happen quickly, efficiently and with a minimum chance of errors. Most of the time the app has dependencies that you are not aware of. Often QVD’s are used to provide the data and extensions are often used for visualizations. Sometimes an external script is used and a binary load is done. But how do you know all these dependencies?

Easy Deployment with PlatformManager!

With PlatformManager deployment is easy. With just a few clicks you can publish your Qlik apps to any server. Would you like to promote multiple apps that depend on each other? Then you can build a release and publish that to your production environment. Is something wrong? Did you overlook something when testing the app? No worries, you can restore the complete release package and keep your production environment consistent. Would you like to publish to the same server or different servers on other locations? It’s all possible. And not just for Qlik apps but also for Extensions and Reload tasks. Simple and effective. Want to know more?

Sneak Peak new UI

The PlatformManager user interface is aimed at being able to quickly find and execute functions. The UI is also excellent for this and we even get positive feedback about the user-friendliness. In terms of look and feel there is room for improvement and we took on that challenge some time ago.  We engaged a specialized design agency to investigate what a good, user-friendly and modern interface should look like. After discussions with Partners and customers, this resulted in a design that we are very satisfied with and which has also been coordinated with various customers. The reactions are very positive and we now want to give you a sneak peek so that you know where PlatformManager’s design is headed.Figure 1 shows the navigation between modules and the folder structure. Figure 2 shows the columns settings for Development. You can now select the columns you want to see, put the columns in your order and define the width and sort order per columns. Reference case: PIXUM – BI Application Lifecycle Management with PlatformManager

PIXUM Diginet in Germany has been a valued Customer using PlatformManager for QlikView and Qlik Sense since 2017. EVACO, our Solution provider in Germany, has done a great job and Pixum was able to use the software productively in around three weeks. According to Hendrik Gruβ, PlatformManager offers three major advantages for Pixum. On the one hand, PlatformManager ensures that several people do not further develop an application at the same time. “You can see directly who is currently working on an application.” In addition, the automated version management includes rollback functionality: “You can use it to publish new versions in the development and production area and have them tested and approved using a corresponding process, or if necessary, switch back to an old version. This allows you to provide more flexibility for developers, and setup a better control and management of approval to publish applications on your production servers. Furthermore, the system offers the possibility of analyses of different applications: “We can read and understand the load scripts outside of QlikView and QlikView Sense. For example, the number of fields and objects or loading routes can be displayed. When new developers arrive to the team, they have full transparency,
